Zakat on shares
Nisab from our own published numbers, both methods named with their difference — the choice stays yours.
Zakat is one of the most asked questions about shares, and one of the most often answered with a number that carries no source. Here the working is open: the nisab comes from a metal price we publish ourselves with its date, and the rate follows your calendar. We do not issue rulings and we do not choose for you.
The nisab — from our published price, with its date
The nisab is a weight, not an amount: 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver. We turn it into an amount using the very price we show on our daily cards, and we print the reading's date and source beside it. The silver nisab is far lower, so it makes zakat due on smaller holdings — the gap is shown because it is a choice, not a detail.
| Metal | Nisab | Price per gram | Reading date | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gold · 85 g | 11096.12 USD | 130.54 USD | 2026-10-27 | Tick Data |
| Silver · 595 g | 1040.98 USD | 1.75 USD | 2026-10-27 | Tick Data |
Gold price per gram
From the ounce price published in our report, with its date and source. 24 karat is 999 fine, 21 karat 875 and 18 karat 750. Pick your currency in the calculator below and every figure converts.
| Karat | Price per gram | Reading date | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 24 karat | 130.41 USD | 2026-10-27 | Tick Data |
| 21 karat | 114.22 USD | 2026-10-27 | Tick Data |
| 18 karat | 97.91 USD | 2026-10-27 | Tick Data |
Exchange rates come from our daily series against the dollar, each currency with its date and source. The dollar equals one; a currency with no reading today is left out of the list.

The two methods — named, with their difference
Trading (goods for trade)
Whoever buys the share meaning to sell it takes the full market value of the holding on the due date as the base. This method's input is always at hand: price times quantity.
Holding for growth
Whoever holds the share for its yield and growth takes as a base the holding's share of the company's zakatable assets: current assets after subtracting current liabilities. That share is read from the company's own statements; we do not invent it — it goes into the calculator by hand.
The rate — lunar or solar?
A quarter of a tenth (2.500%) is measured over a lunar year. Anyone counting the year on the Gregorian calendar passes eleven extra days, so the rate is adjusted by the ratio of the two year lengths and becomes (2.577%). Both figures are shown because the gap is real, not a rounding.
Purification — and where its share comes from
Purifying dividends means multiplying the dividends received by the share of non-compliant income (interest) in the company's revenue. We measure that share for every stock whose line our source discloses and show it on its page, or show a conservative upper bound printed next to it; when a stock's screening is incomplete we show no share. This calculator does not apply it to your dividends: take the share from the stock page and enter it in the purification calculator.
And before zakat: is the share compliant in the screen?
We publish the sharia screen for every share we cover, and we name what we ran and what we did not. We never say “halal”: we say “compliant under the screens we ran” only when every screen, the non-compliant income test included, is measured; when one is not measured we say “screening incomplete”.
See the sharia screenThis is a calculator, not a religious ruling. We lay out the declared methods by name with their differences; the choice is yours, or your scholar's.
